Kerstin Ischen

My motto is "Do good and talk about it". I support my colleagues in internal and external communication.

Kerstin looks back on almost 20 years of professional experience in the areas of communication and major gift fundraising. Before working for Active Philanthropy and Wider Sense, Kerstin took care of public relations and fundraising at the ‘Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss’. She began her professional career at the Bertelsmann Foundation, and worked at ‘Random House’ and ‘Editorial Anagrama’ publishing houses in Barcelona before becoming a Development & Outreach Manager for Human Rights Watch in Berlin.

Kerstin studied Modern Languages at the Justus Liebig University of Giessen, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The career combined English studies, business administration and Spanish studies. She graduated as a qualified business anglicist (Diplom-Wirtschaftsanglistin).

Why did you choose working for Wider Sense?

It is important to me to apply myself professionally for socially relevant topics. I have been following the work of Wider Sense from the very beginning when it started out as Wider Sense, and was delighted when the organisation decided to set up a position for communications. The diversity of topics and the great team convinced me that I wanted to work here.

What is a random fact
about you?

I like the concept of lifelong learning and I like to meet new challenges. At the moment I'm trying to learn Turkish.
